Welcome to the Assemblies of God website. This is a movement that was born out of a passionate message laid in the heart of Rev Nicholas Bhekinkosi Hepworth Bhengu to call the people of Africa to “come Back to God.” History indicates that the first local Assembly may have started in the 1930s. However, the ‘Big Bang’ revival took place in 1945 in East London. Since then, the movement has grown in leaps and bounds. Read more about the transformational revival to ever happen on our shores and beyond. A revival that is still gaining momentum many decades after the demise of our founding fathers. As a movement, in a nutshell, we exist to disciple the nations back to God by winning souls for Jesus Christ building up the converts and deploying disciples everywhere (Mat 28:18-20). The Assemblies of God in South Africa dates back to 1908. Nicholas Bhengu was a great pioneer of the movement. He linked up with Mr. HC Philips and the Emmanuel Mission in Nelspruit in the mid-thirties and they later became part of the Assemblies of God. In about 1936, James Mullan came from the Belgian Congo (now Zaire) to work at the Emmanuel Mission. Like Nicholas, he too and his brother Fred became part of the Assemblies of God.
